Hunting For the Tree

As we do every year, the weekend after Thanksgiving, we were off to the country to our tree farm to hunt down our perfect Christmas trees. This year, we took a special guest with us. My brother, Seth, who clearly did not dress for the weather. (NYC has made him soft. Oh, so very soft. No gloves, no hat, and loafers to boot. Oh the shame of it all.)

After the trees had been picked and the boys had their candy canes in hand, I was sadden to hear that this was our tree farm's last year of operation. We have spent the last ten plus Christmases at this tree farm. I remember our first year back in Buffalo, hunting for a tree just the two of us, to me wishing and hoping for a baby, to me pregnant, to I blinked and we were a family of five. Ten years of memories wrapped up in a bit of pine tree and candy canes. Our beloved tree farm will be missed next year.
And so will the candy canes.
