Summer Fun List : the Hike

As we do every summer, we sat down as a family and created our summer fun list.  I love this exercise. It helps me appreciate the simple moments of summer in a season that can feel a bit hurried and scheduled.

Our list included many of the same things from last year : eating breakfast outside, eating dinner outside, having a picnic, go to the pool, have a lemonade stand, blueberry picking, camping, go out for ice cream, see fireworks, go to the beach, go for a hike with the dog.  It also included a few new items : go for a family bike ride and (for the love of all that is holy) get Griffin to ride a bike without training wheels.

Today, we crossed a hike with our pup off the list.  We have a set of trails right down the street from our house that the boys just love.  There is nothing like a walk through the woods to make you stop and appreciate the beauty of summer.  The boys ran through the trails.  We skipped rocks in streams.  We picked pussywillows and kept a keen eye out for snakes.  (Snakes!  Ick!)  It was a perfect celebration of summer.
